Research indicates that increased vegetable and fruit consumption can have protective effects for cancer, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and other chronic diseases. A healthy diet includes a variety of fruits and vegetables, and green smoothies are an easy way to help you get your daily intake of “power greens” and fruits to boost your energy levels and stave off illness.

It takes just a few minutes to make a delicious green smoothie, no culinary skills required! All you need is a blender, some leafy greens, and fruit.Green Smoothie Steps 2

  1. Add 2 cups of a liquid base and 2 cups of leafy greens and blend together until the leaf chunks have disappeared.
  2. Add 3 cups of 1-3 types of fruit and blend until smooth.

Optional: Feel free to add extras like Greek yogurt, honey, chia seeds, flax seeds, acai powder, matcha, ginger, cinnamon, cacao, basil, or mint.

You can get creative and mix n’ match different leafy greens, liquids, and fruit. Using a mix of fresh and frozen fruit will help the smoothie blend better and then you don’t need to add ice or chill it before drinking! Tip: Buying fruit fresh from the grocery store and freezing it can help the fruit stay longer. For example, you could unwrap bananas, quarter them, and put them in ice cube trays for freezing.
